Filmed at The Lodge, no less. Wouldn’t the Prime Minister have people whose whole job is to vet who wanders in with a microphone? You’d think so. Apparently not.
What he actually said
On camera, he had a crack about Kylie Minogue and about celebrating when his football team wins. How classy. How very classy. This is the Prime Minister of Australia — and I’d imagine this one is going to travel right around the world.
Playing to the cheap seats
The whole thing was an effort to be one of the boys — good for the yobbo vote, maybe. I’m not sure it does much for the office he holds. You can be human in the job; you can’t leave the office at the door just because you’ve sat down in front of a podcast host.
It’s about judgement
Forget the one-liners for a moment. The real question is what this tells us about judgement at the very top. The right room, the right show, the right tone — the public is entitled to weigh all three. Tell me I’m wrong on Friday.
